The Amazing Shoe Sisters mentally prepare for their most famous acrobatic feat!

Mary the Magnificent crouches in anticipation of the terrifying leap she will soon make. Note the look of fear on young Clara’s face.

And Mary flies through the air, clearing brave Clara’s head by mere centimeters, and lands safely on the couch. An amazing jump, folks!  The Shoe Sisters have done it again!!

OOPS!

February 17, 2008

This is an OOPS (Out Of Order Post Signal) from Old Woman. Isn’t that just the most clever acronym you’ve ever heard?! An OOPS is a way to alert my blog friends that I have posted a few new things (mostly pictures) but have placed them on, or close to, the actual dates the pictures were taken and/or the events written about took place. You’ll find Tess’ birthday pictures on February 9th, Mamie’s birthday pictures on December 21st, Gus’ birthday pictures on December 10th, and a picture of what St. Nick left in the kids’ shoes on December 6th. Stay tuned for more OOPS. :)

Dappled Things

February 17, 2008

Take a look at this beautiful poem  posted by Dandelionmom over at The Flip Side of DandelionEnd.   It’s called Pied Beauty and it was written by Gerard Manley Hopkins, who was a nineteenth century English poet, convert to Roman Catholicism and Jesuit priest.

Read the poem, my friends. And be grateful for God’s gift of “dappled things”

Flowers From My Boy

Nope, this gorgeous Valentine’s Day bouquet isn’t from my hubby. It’s from my oldest son, Ethan! He surprised me with the flowers as I sat drinking coffee and chatting with my girlfriend, Earl (weird name for a girl, I know) at IHOP on Thursday afternoon. Isn’t that just the sweetest thing?!

For those of you wondering why I was with Earl and not with my man on Valentine’s Day, you may rest assured that romance in the shoe is alive and well.  Old Man and I celebrated the holiday the evening before with dinner, thrift store shopping and the purchase of a megapack of toilet paper.  See, I told you we’re doing fine in the romance department!

A Limerick

February 12, 2008

I once had a good friend named Cal.
She was crazy but I loved the old gal.
What a surprise,
her best gift was disguised
as a curse, and may have saved me from hell.

How About a Game of Tag?!

February 4, 2008

I have dreamed of the day when I would finally be tagged, finally fit in, finally have some blog friends to call my own. And now that that day is here, now that I’ve been tagged by Dandelionmom over at The Flip Side of Dandelionend,  I’ve realized that I’m totally unprepared for the game.  Isn’t that the way it always goes?! I can probably come up with 7 random and/or weird facts about myself.  Afterall, nowhere in the rules does it say that the facts have to be interesting.  Lucky for me, I guess!  But where, oh where, am I going to come with 7 whole people to tag?! I guess I’m just going to have to march in like a brave soldier, tap some people on the shoulder and ask them if they want to play tag!  But I am so nervous!  Oh my…no one ever told me that blogging was going to be so stressful!!

Okay, here are the rules (copied straight from the blog of the one who tagged me.)

Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you.
Post the rules on your blog.
Post 7 random or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
Tag 7 people and link to them.
Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged.

Here are my seven facts.

1. I think I’m addicted to Hershey’s Extra Dark All Natural Pure Chocolate with Cranberries, Blueberries & Almonds. I’m serious!
2. I was conceived on the floor of a hotel bathroom, during a party. Why my mom volunteered that information is beyond me.
3. I met my husband on my first day of tenth grade, which was his first day of ninth grade.
4. I’m afraid of roller-coasters.
5. I can laugh like a witch.
6. I love my Birkenstock clogs and sandals and rarely wear any other shoes.
7. I’ve recently met my cyber-twin. Her name is Thing 2 and she’s very smart, cool and popular!

Here are the lucky bloggers I’ve randomly chosen to tag:

Multiple Blessings

Cluelessmommy’s Weblog

Mama Mia

Throws Like A Girl

Rainbow’s Start and End

motomama

Awalkabout’s Weblog

Okay, here goes…

Do you girls want to play tag?!  Please!
